Today, modern Chinese literature is diverse and vibrant. There are works from both the mainland and the diaspora. Subjects range from contemporary life to science fiction, from romance to horror. Major genres like detective fiction and fantasy have become increasingly popular, especially among young readers. Authors such as Jia Pingwa, Yu Hua, Jiang Rong, and Han Han are some of the best examples of Chinese literature and have been translated into multiple languages, winning a host of awards and international acclaim.
